Hey Bichotaz!
What is a “bichota”? According to Colombian singer and the namesake attached to the most recent Bratz doll, Karol G, a bichota is “an empowered woman, confident in herself, and owner of her own destiny”. Following the controversial Mean Girls release, MGA Entertainment has dropped yet another super-limited Bratz doll in collaboration with Karol G as its celebrity doll of the year and first to be directly based on a musician. Just like nearly every Bratz release, the Karol G doll has sparked some criticism from Bratz fans. Some fans are not familiar with Miss G’s work, some are tired of celebrity dolls, and some are frustrated with the limited drops that Bratz has employed in the last quarter of this year.
MGA Entertainment was gracious enough to gift me the Karol G doll ahead of its launch, and I wanted to share my thoughts on this doll before its upcoming limited restock. Curious about the Bratz x Karol G collector doll? Keep reading for more details about this release, including details on the packaging, doll itself, fashions, faceup, hair, exclusivity, and more!
Hey Mean Girlz!
What a year it has been for Bratz fans! With breaks in between their Winter/Spring and Summer/Fall releases, Bratz finally dropped one of their major Fall releases this past October: the Bratz x Mean Girls collection. But, like with any Bratz release in recent history, the Mean Girls launch received less-than-enthused feedback from fans and consumers for unexpected reasons.
Having debuted in 2001 and experiencing some of its peak popularity in the mid-2000s, the Bratz brand makes perfect sense to base a collection off the 2004 cult classic film Mean Girls—but did this collection experience the success it truly deserved, or did fans get burned during this launch due to its inaccessibility? There are a lot of thoughts to be had about the Bratz x Mean Girls collection, and the online Bratz community has especially been vocal about what has now become a controversial release for the brand. This release may have been destined for controversy since before its launch, having been accidentally leaked by one of MGA’s licensing partners this past May and again by MGA Entertainment CEO Isaac Larian in late August. This collection had all the potential to catapult Bratz back into high status in the toy industry—truthfully, it probably still could despite the unfortunate circumstances that came with the launch.
I was fortunate enough to receive the PR kit for the Bratz x Mean Girls dolls, though I have admittedly not wanted to post much about the collab post-launch. After some time to sit with the collection and the response that MGA Entertainment has received, I want to share my own thoughts about the dolls and rollout.
Hey Angelz!
Well… it’s been an eventful past month, to say the least. It feels like I have so much to say, but my head is filled with so many thoughts that feel impossible to communicate.
I want to thank everyone who has shown love, grace, and support to me recently. I originally wanted to relaunch LookinBratz.com at the end of last month, but things did not go according to plan. Then, when least expected, I received backlash and went through turmoil earlier this month. I wanted to quit everything and give up. I flew off the handle at one point and the stress that I was undergoing went beyond the boiling point. It’s an awful feeling when it feels like the world is closing in on you and all you want to do is scream. That’s how I’ve felt the past month, even before I announced the relaunch.
